Book Review: I Was Here by Gayle Forman
Cody and Meg have been best friends since kindergarten. Basically, they have been inseparable; two peas in a pod. Until one day, they weren't. Until one day, Meg decides to take her own life.
In this moving and heart-warming story of two best friends, you get a glimpse of what it is like to lose someone you love, and face the repercussions.
"I Was Here" by Gayle Forman is a book that prompted me to think about people, and how they interact with others. It also made me wonder about how everything has an iceberg effect, wherein you only see a small portion of the problem/situation. As Cody visits Meg's dormitory, she sees the bottom of the iceberg, and wonders if she really knew her friend at all.
I found that the most important lesson of the book was that you can't help someone that doesn't want to be helped; but you can try. The people who try, even when knowing that you might not let them in, are the true friends. They are the ones who believe that friendship is more than time; it's support.
